The short answer

Compare regular Gokujyun if you want the standard lotion; compare Premium if you want the richer texture described by Rohto. Premium is a separate lotion line, rather than simply a bigger bottle of the regular one. The name alone cannot tell you which will feel better in your routine.

The official Japanese versions below both have 170 mL bottles. The Amazon links identify the corresponding regular and Premium product lines, but we have not established that every seller supplies the latest Japanese formula. Check the current package and ingredients before ordering.

Regular Gokujyun vs Premium at a glance

This table describes the Japanese products on Rohto’s official pages checked on 17 October 2026. It does not certify the formula inside every imported retail offer. “Gokujyun,” “Gokujun” and “Gokujyn” can appear in English listings; check the Japanese name and product details too.

The number of ingredient types is not a measurement of the result you will get. Eight types does not, by itself, establish twice the hydration or prove that Premium is the better purchase for everyone. This guide does not make those claims.

01 / THE STANDARD LOTION LINE

What is regular Gokujyun lotion?

Official Japanese Hada Labo Gokujyun regular lotion bottle
Official Japanese product image: Rohto Pharmaceutical. Used with permission. Check the edition offered by the Amazon seller.

Rohto’s regular Japanese lotion page identifies a 170 mL bottle with four types of hyaluronic acid and a gently thickened texture. Those are manufacturer descriptions; we have not timed its absorption or compared its feel on skin ourselves.

When to look at this option: You want to examine the standard Gokujyun lotion before deciding whether the Premium line offers a difference you care about. Choose the actual lotion bottle, rather than a similarly named milk, refill or light-type variant.

02 / THE RICHER LOTION LINE

What changes with Gokujyun Premium?

Official Japanese product image: Rohto Pharmaceutical. Used with permission. Gold Japanese lotion bottle shown; Premium emulsion and refill are different purchases.

The current Japanese Premium lotion page lists eight types of hyaluronic acid and describes a rich, thick texture. Rohto positions it as a high-moisture lotion. That positioning helps explain the product line; it is not evidence from our own wear test.

When to look at this option: You are specifically interested in the richer texture Rohto describes. Read the current offer carefully: a familiar gold bottle or the word “Premium” does not identify every product in the range.

How to make the choice without buying both

  1. Decide which difference matters. Are you comparing the standard line with the richer manufacturer-described option, or simply trying to replace a bottle you already like? For a replacement, matching the edition matters more than moving to a different line.
  2. Compare the current ingredients and package. Use the official pages as a reference, then read the retailer’s actual offer. If the edition is unclear, ask the seller rather than assume.
  3. Compare the total cost for the same size. For two 170 mL bottles, compare the delivered total in the same currency. For another size, calculate price ÷ mL × 100 to compare cost per 100 mL.
  4. Buy one option that matches your goal. You do not need to purchase both to make a useful first comparison. We have no controlled evidence that using both together gives a better result.

We do not assign a winner by skin type or promise that either lotion will suit everyone. Neither an ingredient count nor a fragrance-free label guarantees your experience.

Avoid the most common bottle mix-ups

LabelMeaningBuying check
化粧水 / ヒアルロン液Lotion / hydrating lotionThe product category compared here.
乳液Emulsion / milkA different product from the lotion.
つめかえ用 / 詰替用RefillCheck whether you want a pouch or a bottle.

Color is a useful visual cue, but it is not an edition check. Compare the complete product name, volume, container and label. The JAN numbers in the first table identify the official Japanese bottles referenced here; they are not a claim that every linked seller supplies those exact editions.

Questions before buying

Is Premium simply a larger bottle?

No. The official Japanese bottles compared here are both 170 mL. Premium is a different lotion line with its own formula and texture description.

Is this the same comparison as lotion vs milk?

No. This article compares two lotions. A listing labeled milk or emulsion refers to another product. Check the full name before buying.

Is Premium guaranteed to be better?

We have not established that. A higher ingredient-type count and richer positioning are not a personal-results test. We would rather explain the choice than invent a universal winner.

Have you personally tested both?

No. This is a source-based comparison. We have not invented absorption times, skin results, star ratings or before-and-after photographs. Our editorial policy explains the difference between research and personal impressions.
